CREA is only as strong and representative as its leadership. We encourage all eligible members to vote. We encourage all eligible members to consider running for a position in CREA.

  • Officers are elected every other year by the whole membership (see duties of officers)
  • Governors are elected every other year by the whole membership (see duties of governors)
  • Stewards are elected every other year by the members of their divisions (see duties of stewards)

The election time table is established and released at the end of August, with the election held at the end of September. Eligible candidates must submit nominating positions signed by eligible CREA members.

To qualify as an officer candidate (or candidate for delegate to the IFPTE biannual convention see duties of delegate ) requires a number of signatures equal to 20% of the current CREA membership. To qualify as a candidate for governor requires 15 signatures with only 10 coming from members in any one division or office. Members may sign as many petitions as they wish.

Nominating petitions are due in September. Immediately after this closing date, CREA members receive an email notification identifying the nominated candidates. Also a notice of election is sent to each member’s home address not less than 15 days prior to the election.

Voting takes place on the sixth floor of the Madison Building in front of the escalators from 7:00 am until 5:30 pm. Officers, Governors, and IFPTE convention delegates are elected at large. Each eligible member can vote for only one candidate for each of these positions. Each member can vote for four Board of Governors candidates (however not more than three individuals from any one division or office can be elected.) Election results are announced the next day, with the elected candidates sworn in at the annual membership meeting in October.
