BOG Meeting Minutes – February 6, 2013

1. Minutes. The minutes of January 30, 2013, are to be submitted for approval after amendment.

2. Scholarship Program Update. The scholarship pool is $8,000 this year: $2,500 for scholarships, $2,500 for loan reimbursement, $3,000 for either use. Minor changes were made to the wording of criteria for awarding scholarships and other program information, including specifying that funds may not be used for travel expenses. Gov. Schierow moved that the changes be approved, Gov. Reeder seconded, the motion passed unanimously.

3. Upcoming Meetings. Meeting with Dennis Hanratty, Library HR, may reveal more of the Library’s plans for sequestration. Meeting House Administration Subcommittee staffer to cover (1) sequestration, (2) concerns about potential changes in EEO procedure, (3) CRS reports—any more discussion of Hungerford report? Any concerns about CRS’s handling of coal ash report?

4. Restarting Mediation. Both sides met with the mediator this week and were asked to discuss areas where they’re flexible. Next meeting scheduled for February 22.

5. Website Problem. We were alerted by a Member office that ads are popping up on google when “creaunion” is searched. Called our host, they said people are piggybacking on our site. They have removed the problem files, but are not sure how it happened; may be happening through comments section. Considerations include changing hosts, finding an experienced webmaster, and refreshing website—which had been recommended anyway.

6. Initiating CREA 101 Brown Bags. Pres. Moteff hopes to launch lunch meetings presenting a range of union/labor issues (e.g., what is a grievance? what is the mediation process?) in the near future. One of the goals is to get members interested and involved in our processes to build CREA leadership and committees for the future.

Meeting adjourned at 1:00 p.m.
