BOG Meeting Minutes — April 22, 2009

1. Minutes. The minutes of April 15, 2009, were accepted.

2. Training. After a description by Governor Grasso of a two-day strategic planning seminar offered by Joe Swerdzewski, discussion ensued over whether training sessions should be staged as daylong events or broken into a series of short teleconferences. Discussion turned briefly to the development of a basic curriculum for core training on federal sector unions and bargaining units. Agreement emerged that there is a need for individuals who are willing to learn and take on specific roles in CREA’s leadership succession. Discussion is to continue at a later meeting.

3. Sponsorship of Non-CREA Events. After brief discussion, Governor Harlan moved that the Board vote to accept a set of guidelines drafted by Governor Stouffer. Governor Stine seconded. The motion carried. Governor McCarthy moved that the Board vote to dissolve the committee formed to come up with the guidelines. Governor Stine seconded. The motion carried.

4. CREA Office Support. The Board considered the steps to take in the recruitment and hiring of an office assistant, including the creation of a position description, determination of pay, advertising of the position, interviewing of candidates, and final selection. Governor Stouffer agreed to work with Steward Beaver on a draft proposal of decisions to be made and report back to the Board in two weeks.
