What do you get by joining CREA?

The right to vote. As a CREA Member you can vote for those that lead the organization and represent your interests.  You can vote for its officers, governors, and stewards.  You can vote on changes to CREA’s constitution.

The right to run for office. As a CREA Member you can run for CREA President, Vice-President for Policy and Dispute Resolution, Vice-President for Training and Liaison, Secretary, Treasurer, governor, or steward, and thereby help solve the problems and issues that confront CRS and its employees on a day-to-day basis. You can also be elected to serve as CREA delegate to the IFPTE Convention, held every three years to bring all local unions together.

The ability to join CREA and Library committees. If there’s an issue you’re interested in — workplace safety or workplace diversity — you can make an active difference. Join a CREA committee, or act as the CREA liaison to a Library committee. (All seats are open to the membership except for the CREA Grievance committee, which is limited to three governors and three stewards.)

Eligibility for CREA scholarships and loan repayment. CREA maintains a modest fund supporting career enhancing education. Scholarships and loan repayments are available to eligible CREA members.

Benefits through Union Plus. Union Plus is an organization that negotiates savings and benefits on a wide range of services and products, from credit cards, to credit counseling, to car rental discounts, to life insurance, etc.  You don’t have to join Union Plus; by virtue of being affiliated with the International Federation of Professional Technicians and Engineers (IFPTE), you and your family members are eligible for these benefits and services.
