Minutes: June 17th, June 3rd, and May 27th minutes accepted.

Scholarship/Loan Repayment: There have been 11 applications. Gov. Stouffer is reviewing the applications. The deadline to submit an application is COB Friday June 19th.

Vacancies for Board and Stewards: CREA has the following vacant positions:

  • OCD Steward
  • FIN Steward
  • IMT Steward and Governor
  • ALD Governor
  • G&F Governor
  • RSI Governor

Cyber Attack: Nick Cook has offered to chair the communications committee to send something to the membership about attack and making sure that people are paying attending. Eric Garcia has set up a meeting with the library’s unions to discuss what the Library can do. Even if a person has not received a letter they can set up credit monitoring now.

Workforce Management and Unions Meeting: Meeting next week to discuss issues. Question has been raised that in the last breach, affected people were provided with lifetime free credit monitoring and up to $3 million in insurance. This time it is 18 month monitoring and $1 million. Why the difference?

Meeting with Monica Woods: Discussed the COP program. There is a COP position that closed a month ago, but very few people seem aware of it. Is there anything in the contract that the union needs to be notified when a position is available?

Meeting with Deputy Librarian and Chief of Staff:  They meet with supervisors and management and talked about IT, personnel and performance issues, and Dr. Billington’s retirement. There will be a public retirement event in October around Columbus Day and a staff event in the fall. There will be an evening affair with Congress and the Madison Council.  There will also be a day when Dr. Billington will have open office hours.

The Board discussed ways to encourage members into advocating for their own interests. Discussed how to counter the fear of retaliation.

Meeting adjourned at 1:00.

Minutes: none prepared.

Metro Council: The head of the council is planning to retire and they are rewriting the by-laws to have a full time director. There is a way to make sure dues to Metro Council do not go to the political arm. CREA is going to make sure that their dues do not go to the political arm of the council.

Resignation: Gov. Figliola resigned. Need to recruit another governor for RSI.

Legislation in the FY16 Appropriations: Report language in the bill directs the office of compliance to do a pilot program to provide an outside-the-library alternative to the current library dispute resolution process. The provision was proposed by Senator Blunt and there is some uncertainty about what it means. CREA and the other unions have requested an information sessions with the library on this.

Hiring outside of CRS: There seems to be a pattern of hiring outside of CRS for DAD positions rather than hiring one of the SRMs, who often serve as acting DAD during the hiring process.

Temporary Promotions: The board discussed the issue of temporary promotions which continue past the amount of time allowed under the contract.

Open Forum:

  • During renovations there have been issues with noise and with the chemical adhesives used during the process which are uncomfortable, annoying, triggering allergies for some. Can any accommodations be made (e.g., allowing to work at home) for those bothered especially by the chemicals.

Meeting adjourned at 1:00.

.Minutes: Not covered, as Allison is at a meeting.

Appointment of Clint Brass to fill the temporary vacancy of Chief Steward left by Julius Jefferson: Motion to approve of the President’s appointment made by Brian, Seconded by Betty-Jean. Passes with no objections.

Update on meeting with Mary Mazanec: Valerie’s meeting was 6/9, little to report. There will be a farewell for Ed Jablonski at 4pm 6/11 at Hawk and Dove, and a staff appreciation meeting 2pm, 6/10 in Montpelier Room.

Update on meeting with Diane Duffy: Mentioned increased Weingarten meeting rate.

ULP on Emergency Closure: Work on the ULP will continue.

ULP on Staff Photography Project: An affidavit will be this week.

CREA Issues and Assignments: Division Meetings: These have been helpful, and should continue. Suggestion that we should host them once a term, instead of once per year, due to burden on stewards and CREA. Suggestion that smaller divisions could be combined for one meeting, or a more informal and shorter meeting could be held in them.
