Meeting to Discuss Changes to CREA Constitution September 22, 2009

September 17th, 2009 · No Comments · Announcements

Please come to a CREA meeting Tuesday, September 22 at 12:00 in LM-412 to discuss Board-approved proposed Constitutional changes.

In accordance with the CREA Constitution and at the CREA Board of Governors’ direction, a CREA Investment Committee was formed in 2008 to study CREA’s portfolio and make ongoing recommendations. As part of its duties, the Committee examined some inconsistencies in the CREA Constitution and has recommended that certain changes be made to place the written Investment and Fiduciary Policies outside of the Constitution and to modify the Constitution to reflect that. This will give the CREA Board flexibility while remaining in compliance with the CREA Constitution. CREA’s conservative investment policy and strategy (which permit the investment of union funds only in government-backed securities) remain unchanged. CREA fiduciary oversight procedures also remain unchanged from current practice. The Board approved the changes at its July 8, 2009 meeting.

Below is a link showing the changes to the Constitution as approved by the Board.  The Constitutional changes will be presented for ratification at the election in October.

At the end of the document are included the written Investment Policy and Fiduciary Accountability Policy, which have been approved by the Board and are now in effect.  Here is the link to the  proposed changes:  Proposed Changes to CREA Constitution 2009.

If you have questions, but are unable to come to the meeting, please call or e-mail your CREA representative. CREA representatives are listed at http://creaunion.org/crea-officers-governors-and-stewards/.
