The Library’s Center for the Book and the Manuscript Division have invited Kristin Downey to speak about her new book, “The Woman Behind the New Deal: The Life of Frances Perkins, FDR’s Secretary of Labor and His Moral Conscience.” Frances Perkins was an instrumental labor figure and the first female to serve in a Presidential cabinet. Ms. Downey, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist from the Washington Post, will discuss and sign copies of this recent biography.
For a review of a similar lecture given by Ms. Downey at Cornell University, see
The lecture will be in the Mumford Room, Monday March 23, beginning at 12 noon.
In keeping with the celebration of Women’s History Month, CREA encourages anyone interested in great figures of the Labor Movement to attend.
